WHAT'S BROKE AND NEEDS FIXING by Leo Haggerty PFWA
WHAT’S BROKE AND NEEDS FIXING. Sadly I’m back to my way too often targeted institution which is the National College Athletic Association. With so many things that are broken as it applies to the NCAA I’m going to just concentrate on one central aspect that could fix a multitude of issues.
What’s broke with the NCAA is the lack of enforceable rules in a plethora of scenarios. Because of a lack of guidelines college athletics has turned into The Wild West with athletes becoming mercenaries moving continuously to the school that’s the highest bidder for there services.
How does the NCAA fix this? It’s by revamping its entire rules structure and creating together with the help of administrators and coaches as well as athletes a 21st century set of, and here’s the key part, enforceable guidelines where institutions of higher learning and the athletes that attend those colleges and universities can thrive.
I’m not suggesting for one iota that the NCAA attempt to go back to its past rules structure. That genie isn’t going back in the bottle nor should it.
The NCAA needs to create a “profit sharing model” where all of the aforementioned groups get a piece of the pie. If that doesn’t happen soon look for members especially Power Four football ones to exit the NCAA and create their own coast-to-coast football mega conference when the next TV contract comes up. There’s way too much money involved to not see that scenario playing out for real.
So NCAA consider yourself warned. Either immediately plan on making necessary changes before, to borrow a well used phrase, Elvis leaves the building.
Book it Dano!
