SCREAMIN’ FROM THE CHEAP SEAT. Back yelling at the NCAA. Last time I got loud was about how to set the number of teams in the College Football Playoffs and configuring the bracket. Today here’s my suggestion on how to determine who the participants will be because right now it's broke and needs fixing.
First I want establish the number of teams at 16. It may not be there in 2025 but it’s coming and that needs to be locked in permanently. Are you listening NCAA? Let's hope so.
Now with that being determined here’s how the teams are selected. The two teams that are in the Power Four championship games automatically receive a bid. Winners are easy and punishing a loser in the title contest when they should be rewarded is ludicrous. That is totally unfair especially if you are defeated as time expired on a long distance field goal the way SMU lost to Clemson in the ACC Championship tilt.
That locks in 8 entries and the 9th automatic berth goes to the highest ranking non Power Four team which was filled by Boise State last year. That leaves 7 at large slots to be filled and to be perfectly honest I could accomplished that feat in less than an hour.
Why not too difficult you ask Buddy? That's because it's not rocket science. Your record tells me who you are. Simple as that.
As you can plainly see this is an easy fix. Let’s hope the powers that be in Indianapolis don’t try to complicate this because with their previous track record when it comes to successful choices is less than impressive.
How's this for a solution? Put me on the CFP Selection Committee. I'll get it done. Make that happen NCAA.
BOOK IT DANO!
