BREAKING NEWS. Not only is the NCAA contemplating increasing the College Football Playoff from 12 to 14 or 16 teams as soon as possible but also being examined closely is increasing March Madness from the current 68 teams 72 or 76 participants.

I have some consternations over the CFP expansion just due to the possible number of games to be played. Some team could end up playing 17 games. That’s an NFL schedule and the wear and tear on a collegiate player would be astronomical. Also the chance of a non Power Four team winning the championship is minuscule bordering on the impossible.

Now March Madness is a different animal. With a plethora of high end NBA level players leaving after one season of collegiate hoops creates a different dynamic. Senior laden mid major schools like San Diego State and Florida Atlantic have proven that Cinderella has a legitimate shot of emerging with the glass slipper especially with the easy access to the transfer portal.

I have encouraged the NCAA to expand March Madness for years. Maybe the powers that be are finally listening.
