7/5 - THOUGHTS FROM A SEPTUAGENARIAN by Leo Haggerty PFWA

THOUGHTS FROM A SEPTUAGENARIAN. In my 70 plus orbits on the third rock from the sun one thing has changed exponentially. That’s what you can bring through the gate at an athletic contest then and now.

Back in the 50s and 60s there was no requirements on what you could bring into a sporting event. You could show up with huge bag with food and drink as well as other paraphernalia that would be useful at that game. Nothing was off limits back in the day.

Today it’s a completely different scenario. If you bringing a purse or a carry bag it must be transparent and not exceed a definitive size. If it does not conform to these specific parameters you will be asked to return it to your vehicle or store it in on sight lockers if they are available. Even worse if neither of those options are possibilities toss your personal item in the trash can because you cannot bring it into the venue.

I understand with all the craziness going on in the world today there is a need for upgraded security. My only question is why can’t an individual’s bag just be searched. If someone’s planning to commit bodily harm at an athletic event you would have to believe they’re not bringing a weapon in a bag that will be searched.

With that being said I do believe this policy of small transparent bags is the quickest way to get large masses of people into the contest. The teams just need to do a better job of informing fans what the rules and regulations are so people aren’t forced to throw away expensive items to go cheer on their favorite team.

Simple fix to keep a happy fan right Buddy.
