BREAKING NEWS. When it comes to the opinions of the Power Four Commissioners on how the NCAA College Football Playoff should be structured moving forward there is a bit of a disconnect. To say that all four aren’t on the same page is an understatement and it could turn into a real donnybrook.

It appears that there are two camps when it comes to the selection process for the CFP. Head honchos Tony Petitti of the Big Ten and Greg Sankey of the SEC are pushing for 4 guaranteed slots for each of their respective conferences. Their counterparts Brett Yormark of the Big 12 and Jim Phillips of the ACC are politicking for the 5 plus 11 model where a fistful of the highest ranked conference champions get automatic berths with the rest being strictly at large choices.

Here’s where I stand on that issue. I am diametrically opposed to guaranteeing any spots in the CFP with the exception of the two teams that play in the four Power Four Conference Championship tilts. All others should and must be chosen strictly on their performance.

With the NCAA still permitting free movement in the transfer portal a team can become a CFP contender in less than a year. That can change the power structure almost overnight and a perfect example of that is Indiana University. A new head coach and staff plus a bevy of transfers took the Hoosiers from perennial bottom feeders to a spot in the last CFP.

As you can see it can happen that fast. That’s why only teams in the title games should have a ticket already punched to the dance.

The rest need to earn their spot. Novel thought there right Buddy.

BOOK IT DANO!
