THOUGHTS FROM A SEPTUAGENARIAN. One thing that has completely changed since Nancy agreed to marry Leo in May of 1952 and then had their first child in April of 1953, me, deals with the color choice of home game uniforms especially with basketball.

Back in the 1950s the home team in all NCAA along with the NBA contests ALWAYS wore white uniforms. No exceptions and there was a very good reason for it.

I’m not saying that the referees favored the home team but anytime there was a close call the zebras knew who the home team happened to be. I’m not suggesting one ounce of impropriety or favoritism but subconsciously the group with the whistles knew what side most of the fans were supporting. It’s human nature.

Today that scenario has completely changed. Home teams still chose to wear white but that was no longer set in stone. A colored jersey has also become more prevalent.

My thoughts as a former coach are that I am NEVER EVER giving up the white jersey when at home. I want all the advantages within the framework of the rules as I can acquire. I still believe that’s one of them.

 Book it Dano!
