6/21 - SCREAMIN’ FROM THE CHEAP SEATS by Leo Haggerty PFWA

SCREAMIN’ FROM THE CHEAP SEATS. Who am I getting loud on today? None other than my favorite whipping boy the National Collegiate Athletic Association over the delay on determining the number of teams that will be participating in the upcoming College Football Playoff.

It’s time for the powers that be in Indianapolis to stop dragging their feet on this one. Just pontificate that starting this year and moving forward there will be 16 teams selected to play in the CFP.

You can figure out later if there will be guaranteed spots and rankings along with if there will be byes. Just make a decision now on how many schools will be chosen.

Let me make one thing crystal clear. I don’t agree with this one iota but it’s coming. There’s way too much money to be made by the NCAA to let a little thing like having college football players competing in possibly 17 games to get in the way of that gargantuan payday.

Trust me, my loyal readers and listeners, I will be chiming in loud and clear in future columns on how the entire CFP process needs to be constructed from beginning to end including compensating participants. You can take it to the bank that I will not sit silently but be expounding my full throated recommendations to anyone who will listen.

I’m hoping the NCAA will be listening. Why you ask? Because it’s become blatantly obvious from the previous decisions made when it comes to the CFP by this august body that they have no clue on how to get this done.

The NCAA needs to get this right and soon. Sadly, from their track record of previous decisions, I have serious reservations as to whether that will occur and that’s why I’m offering my unsolicited expertise.

BOOK IT DANO!
