RECORDS THAT WON'T BE BROKEN by Leo Haggerty PFWA
RECORDS THAT WILL NEVER BE BROKEN. Continuing on with reason #4 as to why Wilt Chamberlain is the Greatest NBA Player of All Time. But first, let's do a quick review of exhibits 1 through 3 of the 72 National Basketball Association records held by the Philadelphia legend.
#1-Most minutes played in a season at 48.5. #2-Most rebounds in a game at 55 along with a season with 2,149. That comes to 27.2 a game and a career retrieving of 23,924 that equates to 22.9 a year. #3. Most points scored by a rookie in a game with 58 twice and a season with 2,707 plus highest points per game average at 37.6.
Here's #4. Most shots attempted in a game without a miss. This will sound unbelievable but, over a stretch of four games in February, #13 made 35 consecutive shots including an 18 for 18 performance on February 24 against the Baltimore Bullets.
In the last 40 years only two players, Gary Payton and Thomas Bryant, have come close with 14 of 14 shooting nights but still four short of tying the Kansas Jayhawks star.
So, that's a quadruple of reasons why Wilt The Stilt is the NBA GOAT. Next week a tie it all up with the last reason why this issue isn't even debatable.
Sorry Michael and LeBron. You may be the playoff and longevity GOATs but not the ultimate GOAT. That belongs to The Big Dipper.
Book it Dano!
Here's #3. Most points scored by a rookie and The Stilt has the trifecta in the 1959-60 season. Most in a game with 58 twice. Most in a season and that adds up to 2,707. Highest points per game average at 37.6.
