NFL SCREAMIN’ FROM THE CHEAP SEATS by Leo Haggerty PFWA
SCREAMIN’ FROM THE CHEAP SEATS. Who am I going ballistic on today? None other than media members that cover the National Football League.
Stop trying to artificially create buzz and excitement among fans of a specific team by overemphasizing the importance of the offseason workouts. It’s underwear football. Nothing means anything until training camp beginning in July. That’s when players get to suit up and it starts to get real in full battle regalia.
Here’s a few words of advice to The Fourth Estate observing the NFL. Wait until full contact activities commence until you start anointing any new addition to the team you are dissecting as their 2025 savior. There’s an exponential difference in performance between non contact practices and when the bullets are flying for real in exhibition contests. It’s a whole different animal when you know it’s a hit or be hit scenario.
Take a deep breath and hit the pause button before you pontificate on a newbie being the 2nd coming of a Hall of Famer. Wait until you have a bigger sample size of their body of work in game situations. That way you won’t have to walk back all those platitudes you bestowed on them when The Turk comes calling and they gets cut.
BOOK IT DANO!
