6/17 - RECORDS THAT WON’T BE BROKEN by Leo Haggerty PFWA
RECORDS THAT WON’T BE BROKEN. Let’s go to the National Basketball Association for today’s unbreakable mark. That happens to be the most consecutive NBA Championships.
That remarkable honor is held by the Boston Celtics. The C’s put together a string of 8 straight titles from 1959 to 1966. It’s not only the longest in the lore of professional basketball but it’s the longest winning streak in modern sports history.
With the advent of free agency in the Association as well as in all other major sports it safe to say this record will never be topped in any sport. Add into that the increased travel and number of teams in a specific league along with the number of playoff games you have to win to capture the crown just increases the likelihood that no organization will even come close to eclipsing the Beantowners.
Being a life long Philly sports fan it pains me to admit that this record will never be surpassed. My job is to like Joe Friday would say on every episode of Dragnet and I am dating myself with this just the facts no matter how hard they are to admit on a personal basis. The simple truth is that this mark is as safe as parking the car in the Harvard Yard.
BOOK IT DANO!
