7/30 - RECORDS THAT WON’T BE BROKEN by Leo Haggerty PFWA
I think this record is safe.
RECORDS THAT WON’T BE BROKEN. Let’s talk about consecutive games played today. Everyone knows the Iron Man MLB streak of 2,632 straight games played by Baltimore Orioles great Cal Ripken Jr but what about the other pro sports Buddy? Let’s deal today with who had the record for the longest consecutive games played in the National Basketball Association.
The NBA Iron Man mark is held by A.C. Green. The 6’9” forward played for four teams during his 16 year career predominantly with the Los Angeles Lakers where #45 was the part of 3 NBA Championships. The Oregon State alumnus answered the bell 1,192 straight times.
The longest streak in The Association now belongs to current New York Knicks wing Mikel Bridges. Since he was drafted in 2018 Villanova alum has not missed a game amassing a total of 556 games. No current player has even crested the 500 straight contests plateau.
As I always encourage my readers and listeners to do you need to do the math. Bridges still needs to play in his next 636 games to tie Green. That’s almost 8 more seasons and that would make the Knicks star, who coincidentally celebrated his 29th birthday today, 37 years old.
There’s a chance Bridges could eclipse Green’s record but that’s a long shot a best. With the Philadelphia native getting long in the tooth and load management being so prevalent today in the NBA I would bet the mortgage that this record won’t be broken.
BOOK IT DANO!
