7/7 - RECORDS THAT WON’T BE BROKEN by Leo Haggerty

RECORDS THAT WON’T BE BROKEN. Staying with Major League Baseball again. The record that I truly believe won’t be broken is the one for consecutive scoreless innings by a pitcher.

That mark stands at 59 shutout innings established by Los Angeles Dodgers ace Orel Hershiser in 1988. That surpassed the previous bar by one inning set by another LA righthander Don Drysdale who put up 58 straight goose eggs on the scoreboard in 1968.

Since then the closest anyone got to even getting in the the same area code at Hershiser was in 2015. That’s when a third Dodger hurler Zack Greinke fashioned a streak of 45 2/3 innings without giving up a run.

I’ll bet you wondering why I believe this record is untouchable. We’ll simply do the math.

All three of the above mentioned pitchers put together a string of 6 consecutive shutout complete games. The most any pitcher in 2024 just going 9 innings was 2.

That would mean that if someone took the bump and managed 6 innings a start it would take them 10 scoreless outings to put their name in the record book. Not happening right Buddy.

BOOK IT DANO!
