SCREAMIN’ FROM THE CHEAP SEATS. Who am I getting loud on today? Back at the WNBA and this time I’m yelling at the players vociferously for this reason.

During warm ups for the All Star game players wore PAY US WHAT YOU OWE US shirts to emphasize to the league there needs to be a significant increase in salaries when the current Collective Bargaining Agreement expires at the end of the 2025 season. I know you’re saying to me you’re a little late to the party with this one but I wanted to wait until all the metrics were in from the contest before I commented. Always need to do the math right Buddy.

So the information is back on the All Star game and it’s not good for WNBA players. If they haven’t figured this out yet let me help them.

There’s only one reason fans are watching on TV or buying tickets to WNBA games in large numbers and that’s Caitlin Clark. All the All Star game did was put an exclamation point on that statement.

The average viewership dropped 36% from the all time high the previous year of 3.44 million viewers to 2.2 million. That’s a huge negative metric.

So what’s the one variable that changed that caused the huge increase in viewership in 2024 and led to a precipitous drop in eyeballs in 2025 you ask? The Indiana Fever star playing in 2024 and having to sit out with an injury in 2025.

This only adds fuel to the fire for owners when the new CBA is being negotiated. They now have empirical data that shows there’s only one player driving the massive increase in interest in the WNBA and that’s the University of Iowa alum.

I believe the players are taking the wrong approach to this. The only reason revenue is up is because of #22 and the owners know this.

A high tide raises all boats and Clark makes that happen. No one else. The players need to realize this and embrace it.

She’s the Golden Goose whether they like it on not. Don’t kill it ladies with your petty jealousy because if she goes away so do you.

BOOK IT DANO!
