7/4 - RECORDS THAT WON’T BE BROKEN by Leo Haggerty PFWA
RECORDS THAT WON’T BE BROKEN. Being that I’m out in The Emerald City I thought I would bring to light this record that won’t be broken. That’s the MLB mark is most hits in a season and it has a definite Seattle flavor.
The individual who currently holds this mark is Ichiro Suzuki. While playing for the Seattle Mariners in 2004 the Japanese star hit safely 262 times. 225 singles and 24 doubles plus 5 triples along with 8 home runs that equated to a .372 batting average. Add to that 49 walks and it’s a career year.
The closest any player has come to that mark is #51 himself. 238 hits in 2007 holds down the #18 spot. No other player has even cracked the top 50.
With the analytics backed swing for the fences instead of not making out mentality in Major League Baseball today this record will not be broken. It all or nothing with the hitters now in MLB.
Would there be a place for Ichiro in The Show today? I hope so because a guy who only struck out 63 times in 704 at bats would be my lead off hitter every day and twice on Sunday.
BOOK IT DANO!
