7/13 - THOUGHTS FROM A SEPTUAGENARIAN by Leo Haggerty PFWA

THOUGHTS FROM A SEPTUAGENARIAN. I must admit that in my 72 plus years on this planet I have never witnessed this. What am I talking about? It’s the selection process by MLB for the 2025 All Start Game.

I’m referring to the choosing of Milwaukee Brewers rookie righthanded pitcher Jacob Misiorowski as a replacement player for the National League. To say this has created a controversy among players and fans along with the media is like saying that Mount Everest is just another hill.

Here’s why there’s such an uproar about adding “The Miz” to the Midsummer Classic. #32 entire time in The Big League adds up to five games. Yup you heard that right. Five starts and that’s what has his detractors yelling, there are more deserving people of this honor.

The problem that was developing was that players especially pitchers, were declining the All Star invitation in droves. In fact, a dozen hurlers had already chosen to respectfully pass which led to MLB calling on the 23-year-old Missouri native.

I get that this is an exhibition contest and the 6’7” phenom has been clocked at 103 mph which will add excitement if he gets to take the bump.  But an All Star after only a fistful of tilts in The Show borders on being ludicrous.

The question that begs to be asked by me is does this short sample size worthy of All Star recognition? With other pitchers who are having better seasons with a larger database I must conclude that Major League Baseball got this one wrong.

Now watch the Crowder Junior College product go out and strike out the side with nine unhittable 100 plus mph pitches. That would be a drop the mic moment for sure right Buddy.

BOOK IT DANO!
