SCREAMIN’ FROM THE CHEAP SEATS by Leo Haggerty PFWA
SCREAMIN’ FROM THE CHEAP SEATS. I’m screaming at the sports media specifically the person or persons or outlet that has reported about an alleged affair between former Phoenix Mercury and current Indiana Fever player Sophie Cunningham and Phoenix Suns and Mercury CEO Josh Bartelstein.
After reading some of the articles that have derived from a lawsuit filed against the Suns by former employee Gene Traylor against a former franchise employee. In the legal document he is quoted as saying that he had “overheard that a colleague had been telling people that the married Bartelstein” had been having an affair.
3 mistakes made by the individual or group that ran with this story. 1-Anytime you have hearsay involved you MUST find another source to corroborate that testimony. Obviously they did not so there’s a big red flag going up. Strike one. 2-Give the accused a chance to tell their side of the allegation. Another missed opportunity. Strike two. 3-STAY IN YOUR LANE. This story has nothing to do with what happened on the hardwood so if you’re a sports reporter stay away from these like it’s the plague. Deal ONLY with newsworthy items related to your sport and not sensationalized yellow journalism on the periphery to non sports entities that thrive on this.
That’s three strikes. Guess what? You’re out.
