7/22 - RECORDS THAT WON’T BE BROKEN by Leo Haggerty PFWA
RECORDS THAT WON’T BE BROKEN. With Scotty Scheffler winning The Open for his 4th Major Championship let’s stay with the PGA for a record that won’t be broken. That would be consecutive wins on the PGA Tour.
That mark was set in 1945 by legendary golfer Byron Nelson when the Texas native strung together 11 straight victories. That was also the year when the Hall of Famer posted 18 total Tour wins and that may be a record for future consideration.
The closest anyone has come to that was Tiger Woods. Over a span from 2006 to 2007 he claimed 7 consecutive PGA tournament titles.
Buddy, this record is as safe as the gold in Fort Knox. With every new event over 100 golfers are shooting for that top spot. Just too many really good players out there now to envision someone even Scheffler getting on a roll to capture a dozen straight top spots.
Just sounds impossible. Maybe it is.
