LEO'S LOSERS WEEK 1 NCAA by Leo Haggerty PFWA
LEO’S LOSERS: Week 1 NCAA
Are you ready for some football? The NCAA season kicks off today, with the NFL following next week. And that can only mean one thing—it’s time for the return of LEO’S LOSERS. For those of you new to this column, let me explain the parameters: we’re all about picking losers here. No point spreads—just the money line. Each week, I’ll choose three games, and the bets will vary. Here are the simple rules:
Picking the LOSER: Henceforth the name LEO’S LOSERS. Catchy, correct?
Underdogs and Favorites:
If I’m picking an underdog to lose, the point spread must be less than 10 for the favorite. For example, it’s easy to pick Ohio State to beat Akron when the Buckeyes are favored by 48.5 points over the Zips, right?
If I’m picking the favorite to lose, the point spread doesn’t matter.
Formatting Details:
The HOME TEAM will be listed in CAPITAL LETTERS. If there are no CAPS, the game is being played at a neutral site.
The point spread will be in (parentheses), followed by the amount wagered and the potential winnings.
And remember, this is all STRICTLY for entertainment purposes—a guide for my listeners and readers. As a credentialed member of the media, I can’t actually bet on football games, so consider it monopoly money.
Track Record:
For the last four years, I’ve ALWAYS finished the season in the black by Super Bowl Sunday. That’s good news for those who took my advice and perhaps not so great for my short-term investment banker.
Now, without further ado, here are my prognostications. Good luck to all!
Southern California (+4) loses to Louisiana State
Bet: $570
Potential Winnings: $300
Rationale: Expect a high-scoring affair in Las Vegas, but the Tigers’ defense will edge out the Trojans.
WEST VIRGINIA (+7.5) loses to Penn State
Bet: $610
Potential Winnings: $200
Rationale: The Nittany Lions visit Morgantown for the first time in 32 years, likely spoiling the Mountaineers’ opener.
FLORIDA (+2.5) loses to Miami-Florida
Bet: $150
Potential Winnings: $100
Rationale: Transfer QB Cam Ward could make the difference for the Canes over the Gators at The Swamp.
Remember, it’s all in good fun, and may the odds be ever in your favor! 🏈🎉 If you have any other sports-related questions or need more predictions, feel free to ask!
