Ole Miss at LSU a Mid-Week Review
OMG WHAT A GAME
With LSU claiming victory over Ole Miss this past Saturday any LSU fan could say that game could be the game of year for them. LSU had multiple close games this year especially South Carolina and Ole Miss, which both were nail bitters. However as the quote goes, " a win is a win" and especially when it is a SEC schedule. In this past game, LSU did not lead the game until the final play of overtime where LSU walked it off with a Kyren lacy touchdown and sent Ole Miss back to Oxford with two loses under their belt. This victory was euphoric for the entire LSU fanbase as for most of the game, winning felt out of reach. Now LSU is 5-1 and the season feels back to life again, and there is a chance and hope for a college football playoff birth. Lets dive into what this win means for LSU and what's to come
Winning a Rivalry Game Against Ole Miss:
Ole Miss and LSU have a long history of hard fought football games, with the edge historically going to LSU who leads the series between the two teams 66-42. This win quiets Brian Kelly's haters who say "he cant win big games", well Brian Kelly is 13-0 in Tiger stadium at night now, and has a winning record against top 25 football teams through his time at LSU.
For Ole Miss it felt like the nail in their coffin for the season, with a loss to Kentucky and LSU in a span of three weeks, they now enter the gauntlet of their schedule and already have two losses. The confidence of the team has been shattered and in my opinion, opens the doors at Ole Miss wide open for Lane Kiffin to take the Lane Train to UF (University of Florida). This game filled the confidence for one team, and sucked the life out of another, that's why this match up was going to dictate the season for both teams.
This game fell on the 100th anniversary of Tiger stadiums, one of the biggest stadiums in the country and the best American football environment in the country(and that is an objective fact). The stadium received new LED light show, new scoreboard, and new speaker system in the stadium for some much needed updates. Every fan that went into the stadium, received a LED light bracelet which was synced to each other for light shows during songs, 3rd downs and breaks in the game. The environment wrapped around the context, and history behind this game made it one of the top games of the year.
The Future season for LSU:
This win was great for LSU, but now LSU gets into the gauntlet of their own schedule, away games at Arkansas and Texas A&M, then Alabama comes to Baton Rouge. If LSU loses any of these games, the win of Ole Miss and its importance is erased from this season. LSU fans will remember the win but no body else will because LSU will not be in playoff contention. Arkansas is a team that always gives LSU problems, because LSU is their super bowl. They will play LSU hard and that game is viewed as an upset watch for LSU and rightfully so. Then the following week is Texas A&M and a lot of people write this game off because, "Texas A&M has had an easy schedule", which in my opinion is a dumb take because going into Kyle Field and getting a win is a tough ask even if their record is 0-11. However, LSU is up to the task and they have gotten wins their before, start strong get the crowd out of it and the rest is easy. Brian Kelly I believe knows what he is doing and also gets paid 9.5 million more dollars than me a year to make those decisions. I have faith in LSU to win these next two games, then Alabama could go either way. Only time will tell.
