"ALL Aboard the NUSS-BUS",Garrett Nussmeier and an Outlook on the LSU 2024 Season - By Ryan Neal

Quarterback:

With the 2024 Heisman winner Jayden Daniels leaving LSU to enter the NFL, the Tigers know they are going to have a big hole to fill. Daniels tossed for north of 4000 yards, while rushing for 1100+ yards, all the while accounting for 50 touchdowns in the season. With that production any team in the country feels they would regress offensively. However, LSU hopes to stay in stride with Garrett Nussmeier, who has been waiting his turn and coming into his own.

Garrett Nussmeier came out of a Texas high school as a highly touted 4 star QB and was a top 100 player nationally in the 2021 recruiting class according to 247 sports. Nussmeier came in under former LSU head coach, Ed Orgeron, who after his freshman season was let go by the Tigers to bring in Brian Kelly at the end of the 2021 season. Initially it was believed Nussmeier would be the next QB for the tigers, that was until a certain transfer QB from Arizona State University decided to make his way to Baton Rouge.

Garrett Nussmeier could have transferred back in the 2022 offseason when Jayden Daniels decided to transfer to LSU but Nussmeier to fans surprise, decided to stay and wait his turn behind Daniels. It is a rare story to hear a player staying at his current team and waiting for his moment, especially in the world of NIL and the transfer portal which seems to be a prevalent move. For Nussmeier however, he now has had 3 seasons to learn the game and to improve under LSU QB coach Joe Sloan, who is a young and promising riser in the QB coach department.

The scouting report for Nussmeier is essentially, a gunslinger with high confidence. He is a completely different play style to Daniels, so it will be interesting to see how the offensive scheme changes this year especially going from a quarterback who was not only your leading passer, but leading rusher on the team. Now LSU is more limited with their options of when they can run or pass the ball. However, Nussmeiers raw arm ability is believed to be able to transfer onto the field, especially after learning the offense and procedures over 3 year and being backed up by one of the best offensive lines in college football.

Garrett Nussmeiers main weakness has to do with that confidence, which is he is a little too confident and throws the ball in a tight windows that can tend to get intercepted. Nussmeier has started in two games, and came in for Jayden Daniels when he was injured during the SEC championship. In all three of those games Nussmeier threw an interception which that was due to him trying to force a ball into a window. These turnovers can lead to a team losing all of their momentum and transfer it to the other team, or can lose you the game outright if you get turnover happy.

Nussmeiers success will be determined whether or not Nussmeier can avoid throwing interceptions and be a consistent leader on this offense that is looking for the next man to lead LSU to a successful season. The tigers are in Nussmeiers hands, and he waited his turn for his moment to shine, and it is upon us. September 1st, 2024 LSU v USC in Las Vegas.
